A calmer, more considered approach.
Many people live with dry, watery, or uncomfortable eyes for a long time before seeking help.
Symptoms often come and go — some days feel fine, others less so— which can make it hard to know whether it’s worth looking into properly.
At Ladybrook Opticians, our dry eye clinic is designed to help people understand what’s going on with their eyes, without pressure or urgency, and decide calmly whether anything further would be helpful.
People often tell us things like:
“My eyes just feel tired by the end of the day”
“Some days they’re fine, other days they’re uncomfortable”
“I thought it was just screens, or getting older”
“Drops help a bit, but not for long”
If that sounds familiar, a dry eye assessment can help clarify what’s happening and whether any specific support would be useful.
A dry eye assessment is about understanding, not committing to treatment.
It allows us to:
Look at how the surface of your eyes is functioning
Understand why symptoms may be fluctuating
Identify whether dryness is related to tear quality, oil gland function, or other factors
Explain what we find in clear, practical terms
Some people are reassured simply by understanding what’s going on. Others decide they’d like to explore ways to improve comfort further.
Both responses are completely reasonable.

Your appointment includes a careful clinical assessment and imaging where helpful, to build a clear picture of how your eyes are coping.
This may include:
Evaluation of tear stability
Assessment of eyelid and oil gland function
Imaging to help explain what’s happening visually

When treatment may be considered
For some patients, understanding the underlying cause leads to practical changes at home. For others, in-practice treatments may be helpful when symptoms continue to interfere with comfort or vision.
One option we offer, where clinically appropriate, is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy using the Lumenis OptiLight system. IPL is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that can help improve oil gland function and reduce inflammation in suitable patients.
Not everyone needs this, and it is never recommended automatically.
We will always talk through the findings and discuss next steps calmly, without obligation.
Per IPL Session: £275
If this is relevant for you, it will always be discussed carefully after assessment.

Ongoing care and maintenance
Dry eye rarely follows a straight line.
Some people find that occasional maintenance is enough to keep symptoms manageable, while others prefer to revisit things only if comfort changes over time.
Our role is to support you in whatever way feels appropriate — now or in the future.

Common questions
A: Many people think this. Drops can help with symptoms, but they don’t always address why dryness is happening. An assessment helps decide whether anything else might be useful — or whether reassurance is all that’s needed.
A: No. Assessment is about information and clarity. Any options are discussed calmly, and the decision is always yours.
A: Patients usually describe it as a gentle warming sensation. It’s non-invasive and carried out in a relaxed clinical setting.
A: Advanced services like comprehensive dry eye assessments and Lumenis OptiLight IPL are not covered by standard NHS funding. We provide these as specialist services and will soon launch our Eyeplan membership to help make premium care accessible and affordable.
If you’d like to understand your dry eye symptoms more clearly, we’d be pleased to help.
There is no obligation to proceed beyond assessment, and no referral is needed.
